For Easter day I put blankets on the floor and had the kids put something on their head and pretend they were Hebrew children. They had some activities we downloaded from the church’s website and we listened to conference. During the break we dyed eggs and had them for a late lunch along with pizza. We then had our egg hunt and the kids were very entertained eating all the candy and playing with some goodies they got in the baskets. This helped during the afternoon session although they were much rowdier than I wanted them to be. After conference we used our new Easter Felt story kit to retell the story and the kids helped with all the little pictures. They enjoyed doing that and at the end we shared our feelings about Jesus and the atonement, it was a good opportunity to share our testimonies to our children and we felt a nice spirit in our home.

Easter weekend
On Saturday, before conference we talked about King Benjamin and how his people had their tents pitched to listen to him. So we put two tents in front of the TV to listen to the prophet and apostles. I got some feather outlines on paper and they colored, cut and assembled their Nephite hats. They loved this simple activity and did really well during the session until the last speaker, Elder Eyring, when they started to get restless. I asked Heidi what he was talking about and she said, “uhmmmm he is probably talking about sin!” At the end we talked about how we can watch conference from home while they have cousins in Canada and Peru that had to go to their church (by car and foot) to be able to see conference via satellite. We offered a prayer of gratitude that God provides a way for all, no matter where we live, to be able to listen or watch conference. To enhance our nephrite experience, we talked about corn being a main staple in the meals the people of this continent used to eat so we made Arepas (corn meal based cakes) and filled them with cheese and ham. They love making these patties type of bread and really enjoy eating them. So when conference started, they were ready to eat their Arepas and were rather attentive for the first hour.
